Maria Menounos

Maria helped her mother with stage four brain cancer. She discovered that she had a serious health situation. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. Menounos tells PEOPLE that she has been experiencing headaches and lightheadedness from February 2014. My speech had become blurred and I was having difficult comprehending the teleprompter. A MRI confirmed Menounos to have a large-sized meningioma brain tumour that has grown to the size of a golf ball. It was pressing on the facial nerves. Menounos made an appointment with her mother's doctor, renowned surgeon Dr. Keith L. Black The surgery was scheduled to be performed on June 8 - her birthday. "He told me that he was 98 percent sure it's benign however, we'll only know that when we're in the hospital,'" she says. This complex procedure took approximately seven hours and Dr. Black was capable of eliminating 99.9% of the benign tumor. "He said there's between six and seven percent chance that we'll see it return," she says. "But I'll go with those odds every day." After returning home to her family after a six-day hospital stay, Menounos recuperating and enjoying some time with her mother, Litsa Her most recent MRI proves her cancer is well-controlled.
